Rogers To Bring Android 2.1 To HTC Magic
Canadian carrier Rogers have confirmed that they will offer the new Android 2.1 update to their HTC Magic customers. The new Android 2.1 update will be sent out to customers by mid 2010 and will also include the HTC Sense Android user interface.

Sadly however due to the limitations of the HTC Dream, software updates won’t be developed beyond the next Android 1.5 update.
Here’s what Rogers had to say:
First, we will be implementing an update for the 1.5 OS to both the HTC Dream and HTC Magic in the upcoming weeks. These will offer a number of benefits for these devices, including bringing the HTC Sense experience to the HTC Magic, although the OS version will remain 1.5.
By mid-year, HTC will issue an upgrade to Android 2.1, including the highly acclaimed HTC Sense experience for the HTC Magic.
However, due to certain limitations on the HTC Dream, the software path for the HTC Dream will not be developed beyond the next Android 1.5 update. While we regret not being able to offer the same updates to both devices, by bringing this upgrade to the HTC Magic, we are delivering the best solution possible given the situation at hand.
Just yesterday Rogers announced that they would begin offering the Sony Ericsson Xperia 10 exclusively from Q2.

Ermm, the Dream can run 1.6 – I had it before I switched to Cyanogen…
Unless that was a “1.5 update”, which implies there will be a 1.7 soon maybe?

I’m thinking it’s a storage issue. While the Dream will run 1.6 (and up), I’m betting Rogers doesn’t have room on it for all their bundled applications.

Will this be for both HTC and Google branded Magics?

Pats..
The reason the Dream is not receiving the upgraded OS is due to a limitation of the RAM. The Dream only has 192 MB of RAM while the Magic has 288 MB. Well, the Rogers branded Magic has 288MB.
Unfortunately, the case with Google branded Magics.. Or MyTouch3G, is that they were only shipped with 192MB of RAM. (FYI: Rogers branded has a 32A chip and the others have a 32B chip if you’re going to do any rooting.)
You will still be able to run it, but it will probably just give you a fair amount screen lag and loading times.
Let us know how it works out!

Hello!
I am from Malaysia. I just bought HTC Magic last year December but it is still running on Android 1.5. I have been wondering, are there any chances that I could update it to Android 2.1? If can, how and where? Thank you.
