Divide and Conquer Game Added To The Apps-For-Android Project

The ever expanding apps-for-android project has a new adition today, Divide and Conquer.

Written by Karl Rosaen of the Android developer team, Divide and Conquer features a bouncing ball that players need to cut-off from the rest of the screen using a finger swipe motion - drawing horizontal or vertical lines in the process.

Whilst Divide and Conquer is a very basic piece of gaming software, the point of the apps-for-android project is to give Android developers an idea of what can be achieved on the platform by using it's various features and API's.

For Divide and Conquer these include the use of:

  • custom drawing and animation
  • touch input based gesture detection
  • overriding the default behavior of the back key in some situations (to pause the game)
  • creating custom Dialogs
  • configuring an application to be full screen with no title or status bar
  • use of the preferences framework
  • use of the vibrator API

Previous Apps-For-Android updates include:

Triangle, SpriteText and Downloader
Photostream
AndroidGlobalTime
WikiNotes
