Samsung may release a 3G-enabled smartwatch called the Gear Solo

The latest rumors from the Korea Herald peg Samsung to release a variant of their Gear 2 smartwatch with a universal subscriber identity module, (USIM) which essentially means the device will be able to make and receive phones calls on its own, no phone needed. Samsung recently filed a patent for a device called the Gear Solo that matches this description, so we’re assuming that’s what the name will be. You’ll have the Gear Fit, Gear 2, and Gear Solo.

Nothing else was really released about the device, but it’s expected to launch only in Korea at first. Even if it did make its way to the US, I’m not sure too many people will be keen on adding a smartwatch as an extra device to their plans. We’ll find out one way or the other.
