Android 2.1 for Motorola Cliq WAS Available to Everyone

Motorola Cliq Android 2.1

After we reported yesterday that Motorola was searching for Android 2.1 beta testers for the Motorola Cliq, someone turned around and made it available for everyone from Motorola’s Support site. After it was leaked out however, Motorola disabled the support page to prevent any Cliq owners (other than those who signed up to beta test) the ability to run the update from the Support site.

Motorola has put up a few details on what you’ll need to do to prepare your Cliq for the 2.1 update when they DO decide to officially release Android 2.1 to all Cliq owners. One of which is that the update will use approximately 100MB of internal memory as well, so you may find you’ll need to remove a few apps to make room.

Hopefully there’s not too long a wait, and it’s official next time. For full details on install instructions, click the link below.

I’m typing this with my old (now my girlfriend’s) Cliq and flashed the update to it this morning. I personally moved on to the Vibrant the day it launched and I couldn’t be happier with it. The thing that gets me is that Cliq owners waited 9+ months for what really feels like a minor update. Yes it is 2.1 and yes the Cliq is running on an old processor but seriosly, this should have come out 6 months ago. Especially with Motorola dangling that stupid update timeline over our heads. This is the final chapter in a sad story of how Motorola duped it’s customers, displayed the most glaring example of utter incompetence, and, at least in this case, lost a customer. I love all things Android but Motorola could come out tomorrow with a Quad-Core 4 gig of RAM superphone and I wouldn’t give it a second thought. MOTOFAIL FOR LIFE.

    Jeff,

I agree with you 100% about Motorola dropping the ball & losing a customer for life. Motorola is the main reason why I refuse to switch over from TMO to Big Red. The lack of support & horrid experiences my wife & I have had with the Cliq (I literally went through 11 of them before TMO upgraded me to a MyTouch 3G Slide. My wife is on her 3rd one) and eveyone one of their blutooths. I believe what Motorla says like I believe in the Tooth Fairy.

I have downloaded the file in one of the first open window. Does anyone want it?

I also have published adlxmod 2.1.5 based off of it. Check my website for the mod.

The 2.1 is laggy as hell its sucks that’s there’s no live wallpaper :( but at least I can get most of the new apps and I agree this update was long over due I don’t use the cliq any more I have moved on yo an iphone might get the G2 I wish motorola would have put more effort in the cliq just like they did in there pressures droid

Actually the last 2.1.5 Motoblur is pretty good, not that laggy as mentioned earlier as it has JIT enabled (good surprise by Moto actually).

For LiveWallPaper you can install “adlxmod 2.1.5″ that have support for them :-)

I just recently downloaded the new update and it is so laggy that I want to throw my phone out the window. Texting for me is a nightmare. I’m a fast texter and often multitask when texting so, I don’t have to always look at my keyboard to type. But with this, I do. It mixes up my letters sometimes and puts them at the end of the sentence and I don’t get why. For some reason, it won’t respond to my back button anymore and I always have to go to the homescreen to go back. I’m tired of this..
