HTC Confirm HTC Hero Eclair Update

Yesterday, reports were circulating that HTC Hero owners in Europe would not be receiving the Android 1.6 Donut update but instead will jump to the latest Android 2.0 Eclair release.

This report has today been confirmed by HTC who released the following statement:

“Yes, we are working on an Eclair update for the HTC Hero. Because Eclair is a significantly enhanced release, it will require some time to update Sense for this new version of the Android OS. Please be patient while we work to provide you with a tightly integrated experience like the one you are already enjoying on your Hero.”

HTC also released a similar statement via their twitter page.

The HTC Hero will be among the first of the existing Android handsets to receive the Android 2.0 Eclair update. The recently announced Motorola Droid will be the first Android handset to include the Eclair update and will be available from November 6th.

That’s great! I’m wondering if HTC is working on a similar release for the HTC Tattoo.

  2. What about the CDMA version of the Hero?

  3. въпрос имали ъпдейт за htc hero и ако има коя версия е ас сам с 1.5

  4. Has anyone new informations about the release date for android 2.x on the HTC hero?

  5. Still no word… waiting (almost) patiently. so many apps unavailable on android 1.5.

  6. Fuck this I don’t want the 2.x update now this is BS hurry up with it already I don’t want 2 root my phone and get a mod version of 2.x with a camera that dosent work but ad every day goes by I get more tempted and think 2 myself I dont really use my camera that much.

  7. Ya thats true they do need to hurry up with the update but if its things like the camera not working that are holding us back that shouldn’t take long to fix so it should be out soon iv seen people say its not going to be out for two or three months for sprint and they could be charging for it seeing as I have sprint I hope this is not true and I hope they have the update before the end of January.

Will this release will fix all htc-hero boring unattended reboots ?
It’s time to get a fix for this now … I’m looking more and more to my good old nokia e61….

  9. Will the Wi-Fi work correctly in this next version.
    Please say Yes!

  10. So i was really pleased to get my shiney new hero as an upgrade the other day, only to find one or two little niggles – the most obvious being its still running 1.5! When oh when will the update be release so I can use all the lovely apps i want!?!

  11. HTC Europe said they will be releasing 2.1 update mid February. No specific date mentioned though

  12. Thanks for your answer mark. Do you know if that’s gonna be ota from HTC and available regardless of service carrier?

  13. So where is the Hero update? HTC announced this in OCTOBER and we still do not have an update! Is it realy too much to ask to deliver in under 3 months? NO! Pull your finger out HTC, there are already 2.0 devices out there and you are leaving us with 1.5, this is simply not good enough and will result in people leaving Android.

  14. This is BS I am having difficulties with my HTC Hero and I can not get anybody to fix this sh!&. I’m having problems with the bluetooth, sending and receiving pictures messages. I hate the file size limit when I’m trying to send a pic. I only receive pic messages when the damn phone feels like it. I hope this new update gets it fixed and gets here soon or I might be tempted to stomp on this phone.

  15. Yeah HTC were’s that update?!
It’s now Februari and you still haven’t brought it!

  16. HTC will apparently the launch the Android 2.1 for the HTC Hero by the end of March, according to a representative of Irish mobile operator, Meteor. Glynn from the website forum said the following:

“Just got another update on this and HTC have said they are releasing 2.1 on the Hero and we are hoping to have this available by the end of March.

This will be available via the HTC website and we are also looking at other ways to make this update easier to access for our customers. As soon as I hear any more on this I’ll let you all now because I know the release of 2.1 is something that everyone is looking forward to.”

  17. Hm. Does this remind anyone of the whole symbian firmware update which never happend for 5800XM. But unlike my old Nokia 5800XM I can live with this but on the other hand HTC have gone back on their word.

  19. and what is it with the rom upgrade.. there is no point if its going to delete everything on your phone!!
do u need the latest rom version to run 2.1?

  20. I live in an area where 3g is not avalible. We have the edge network. I bought my G1 in August of last year and they promised that 3g was coming out this year. But still no 3g coverage from T-mobile. At&t have it here and so does Verison. I am not under any contract so I could switch if I wonted to. But I like T-mobile because of there lower payments. I feel like they should atleast have have all of the features they promise out before they sell a product. ( can not use You Tube and no flash for video).

  21. Hey,
Will my HTC hero gets locked (to one service provider) after an update?
My current version is 1.5 unclocked Hero without android market.
What are the new features of updated version? any good?

Apparently it’s now the end of April… Released on the 16th April and then the rest is country dependent. Feels so close now!
