HTC Confirm HTC Hero Eclair Update
Yesterday, reports were circulating that HTC Hero owners in Europe would not be receiving the Android 1.6 Donut update but instead will jump to the latest Android 2.0 Eclair release.
This report has today been confirmed by HTC who released the following statement:
"Yes, we are working on an Eclair update for the HTC Hero. Because Eclair is a significantly enhanced release, it will require some time to update Sense for this new version of the Android OS. Please be patient while we work to provide you with a tightly integrated experience like the one you are already enjoying on your Hero."
HTC also released a similar statement via their twitter page.

The HTC Hero will be among the first of the existing Android handsets to receive the Android 2.0 Eclair update. The recently announced Motorola Droid will be the first Android handset to include the Eclair update and will be available from November 6th.

Ya thats true they do need to hurry up with the update but if its things like the camera not working that are holding us back that shouldn’t take long to fix so it should be out soon iv seen people say its not going to be out for two or three months for sprint and they could be charging for it seeing as I have sprint I hope this is not true and I hope they have the update before the end of January.

So where is the Hero update? HTC announced this in OCTOBER and we still do not have an update! Is it realy too much to ask to deliver in under 3 months? NO! Pull your finger out HTC, there are already 2.0 devices out there and you are leaving us with 1.5, this is simply not good enough and will result in people leaving Android.

This is BS I am having difficulties with my HTC Hero and I can not get anybody to fix this sh!&. I’m having problems with the bluetooth, sending and receiving pictures messages. I hate the file size limit when I’m trying to send a pic. I only receive pic messages when the damn phone feels like it. I hope this new update gets it fixed and gets here soon or I might be tempted to stomp on this phone.

HTC will apparently the launch the Android 2.1 for the HTC Hero by the end of March, according to a representative of Irish mobile operator, Meteor. Glynn from the website forum said the following:
“Just got another update on this and HTC have said they are releasing 2.1 on the Hero and we are hoping to have this available by the end of March.
This will be available via the HTC website and we are also looking at other ways to make this update easier to access for our customers. As soon as I hear any more on this I’ll let you all now because I know the release of 2.1 is something that everyone is looking forward to.”

Hm. Does this remind anyone of the whole symbian firmware update which never happend for 5800XM. But unlike my old Nokia 5800XM I can live with this but on the other hand HTC have gone back on their word.
