T-Mobile G2 no Tethering

T-Mobile has decided that it’s best to leave Wi-Fi calling and tethering unavailable for its Android 2.2 G2 users, despite the fact that Verizon and Sprint are allowing these features on the Evo 4G and Droid X, both also running Froyo.

T-Mobile has stated the following in response;

“Wi-Fi Calling and tethering/Wi-Fi sharing are not currently supported on the T-Mobile G2. T-Mobile knows these features are important to consumers and we’re working to deliver them to G2 users in the future. We have nothing further to announce at this time.”

Does this burn you? Or was this expected? Let us know in the comments!

    I assume aps like EasyTether will still work?

    Yes, the 3rd party apps work…but T-Mo is also going to throttle the speed on usage above 5 GB/mo. This gives them the interesting option of someday allowing you to tether “free” and “legit” – but charging you for unthrottled usage above the 5GB, perhaps in tiers. If that’s the approach they take, they could enforce it against everybody, even the third-party app users.
