Pandora Android App Now Available

Pandora have today announced that their popular mobile app Pandora Radio is now available to download from the Android Market.

The Pandora Android app supports the HTC G1, Hero, and the myTouch 3G, allowing for a home screen widget and background playback on the handsets.

Pandora Radio is your own FREE personalized radio now available to stream music on your Android phone. Just start with the name of one of your favorite artists, songs or classical composers and Pandora will create a “station” that plays their music and more music like it.

Already a Pandora user? Even easier. Just log in. Pandora on Android is fully integrated with Pandora on the web. Enjoy all your existing stations – and create new ones right from your Android phone.

Earlier in the week popular European music service Spotify also released their mobile app for the Android platform.

  1. Sadly it’s still for US only. This service is so much better than Spotify and yet one part of the world has one and the other has the other… What a shame :(

  2. If I could use it, I probably would…from what I hear Pandora is very nice.

I also wish I could use Spotify but apparently Denmark doesn’t get to have cool stuff.

  3. What I want to know is, why does Pandora need to read my contact data? That’s spooky and weird and I’m not installing until I understand why.

  4. Hurm, wants to see my contacts. Don’t really like that. Perhaps because of this “Share lets you tell someone in your contacts list about what you’re listening to”

I’m curious enough that I’ll download it and see if I can turn it off but wary enough that I’ll read the terms of service first.

  5. I can’t risk the privacy of my personal contacts. No way am I downloading this app. Wish Android would let me control this better.

  6. Read my contacts? Book!

  7. I agree! I don’t understand why Pandora needs to read my contact data? I’m not installing until I understand why.

  8. So many android apps request to read contact data. What’s the purpose of that?!!!

  9. Just got my phone today, and I notice the same thing! Also, games & whatnot wanting full internet access… not sure if this stuff is safe yet or not. Must search more. :)

Would be nice to be able to simply deny those settings on a per-app level.

  11. I’ve got the same concern (reading my contact data). Anyone found an answer to this yet?
