Official Facebook Android App Now Available
The official Facebook Android application is now available to download from the Android Market.
We haven’t had a chance to have a good play with the app yet, but from what we’re hearing the Facebook Android app has fewer features than it’s iPhone counterpart but does allow access to walls, commenting, and status updates.
Facebook for Android™ makes it easy to stay connected and share information with friends. You can share status updates from your home screen, check out your news feed, look at your friends’ walls and user info. Share photos from your phone and can even look up up to 125 friends’ phone numbers from the home screen.
The Facebook for Android app was revealed back in July, and has been long awaited by many Android and Facebook users since.
An official announcement from Facebook is expected shortly. So stay tuned for more info!
Thanks to all who sent this in! (Alex, Carl C etc.)

It’s not the official application, the developers website is a link to a Facebook group, which state the application is not official. The developers e-mail address is a gmail account which should of been a dead give away to begin with. Check out the link to the developers website:

It is a little strange…
Comment from the Facebook group:
“it’s the only native facebook app for android right now. its not developed by facebook. its developed by google. facebook granted access to internal apis”
The app’s about button also includes :
“(c) Facebook 2009
Android software development consulting provided by Multiple Facets Inc”

Been looking into it a little more. All the other official FB apps were either developed by FB (iPhone) RIM (Blackberry) Palm (Palm) and Microsoft (WinMo). The all use the Facebook (c) logo along with there respective name. They all have links to official sites and official contact details. I find it very suspect that there are no official links from this group or contacts. I think will DL and look through the EULA, to see what it says. I must be bored, LOL.

EULA links straight to FB TOS. Which you have to do if your using FB API and requesting user name and passwords as per the FB Developer agreement. Wonder if we will have any official word from FB any time soon?

Good sleuthing Ben
It is unusual that a press release hasn’t accompanied the app, but hopefully Facebook will release a statement on the app shortly.

Hey all,Fantastic post, although i’m more fascinated in what will take place out of this google vs facebook social network war. I haven’t heard much news on it lately, which perhaps indicates that it’s definitely not that far off, but i’ve got a sense its going to mean some big changes to social networks. I think, i would rather facebook left the battle still in the lead simply because google’s already large enough, additionally they currently hold an excessive amount of data on everyone. I don’t think that both have the opportunity to exist though, either google’s social network will dominate or absolutely crash. What does everybody else think?
