You guys didn’t think we were going stay at 2GB of RAM forever did you? In the no shocker news of the day, Samsung announced they are now producing 3GB LPDDR DRAM for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. It uses six 20-nanometer (nm) class four gigabit LPDDR3 chips that are stacked in two sets of three chips at 0.8 millimeters high. Other than more memory, it will also allow for thinner smartphone designs and more space for larger batteries. Seems like a win win to me.
Manufacturers should start utilizing the upgraded memory during the second half of the year. Hmmm, I wonder if it will find its way into the Galaxy Note III?
