Sharp Lynx SH-10B – a clamshell Android phone

Here’s an interesting Android device that exists over in the land of the rising sun.  Japan wireless carrier NTT DoCoMo has the Sharp Lynx SH-10B as a unique smarthphone in its line-up.  It’s a clamshell style MID that we assume runs a customized version of Android 1.6.  The 5-inch touchscreen runs at 960×480 resolution and it even sports a trackball.  Hit the jump to read more and see a hands on video of the device.

This form factor definitely puts the Sharp Lynx SH-10B in between the phone and netbook medium.  While the keyboard may not be full size, it’s still thumb friendly and the large screen makes it easy on the eyes for web surfing and productivity work.  What’s nice about going back to the clamshell design is the ability to have your screen propped up easily for extended viewing.

After watching the video, the only thing I haven’t figured out is how to hold it for phone calls.  What do you think, is there a market for this size and form factor?  Would you be interested in using this over a tablet?  Let us know in the comments.
