HTC Hero Sense UI Headed To The HTC Magic

HTC have announced that the HTC Hero 'Sense' user interface will be made available for the HTC Magic handset. Announced at a press conference in Taiwan, HTC revealed that the update will be available from their official website at some point in the future.

However, due to licensing reasons the update will not be available for any handset featuring the "with Google" logo on the back. This means that owners of the Vodafone HTC Magic and the T-Mobile myTouch 3G won't be allowed to install the update officially.

Instead, the update will only be officially available for users who either bought the handset directly from HTC, or for the models that don't have the "with Google" on the back.

Back in June, HTC's CEO Peter Chou revealed that, "HTC sense will be available on some other existing devices."

The HTC Sense update is expected to become available later in the year.

  1. Great news. Luckily my HTC Magic doesn’t have the “with Google” branding (Orange Poland).

  2. @Robert yeah i guess you’re one of the lucky few :)

I’m pretty sure the Rogers Canada handsets are also without the Google branding, as are a few other European Countries.

Actually the reason why the Google branded phones will not get the upgrade is because they are 32B phones with only 192MB RAM. People who have hacked the Magic (32A and 32B) experience significant performance difference between the two. The 32A handsets include:

    - HBOOT-1.3300.0009 (SAPP10000) : Sapphire PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H : CPLD-12 (Nordic/Scandinavian Magic A6161)

Seems also ironically the Google Ion phone not having “With Google” on the back should be able to get the Sense UI.

    Great News!

  6. So when and how are we going to get the software update?

  7. I have been reading many forums and still find myself confused or perhaps people have posted inconsistently incorrect information. I have a MyTouch 3G 3.5mm and I was wondering if I have 192mb or 288mb of RAM? Here is my information.
