Eric Brown, CFO of Electronic Arts, spoke to attendees of the Deutsche Bank 2010 Technology Conference about his company’s position on the Android platform. Brown said that EA is gearing up for a more aggressive foray into Android, citing reports that by 2014, Android could hold 25% of the smartphone market share, compared to 11% for Apple’s iOS. Brown had the following to say:
“I think the next big positive wave to push better growth in mobile will be the deployment of an App Store equivalent for the Android operating system. We think long term … the Android market is going to take its share.”
He did not give any specifics regarding which titles we should expect to see hit Android in the near future, or any kind of timeline for that matter. EA joins a slew of companies starting to take Android as a gaming platform very seriously, including Gameloft, Aurora Feint and Epic.
