ARCHOS Video Player released for Android phones and tablets

ARCHOS just released a Video Player for all Android tablets and phones with Android 4.0 and higher. ARCHOS has always been one of the leaders for personal media players so it’s no surprise they would jump in with an app. This one isn’t just any media player. Yes it plays just about every format, but it also can play content from your local network (SMB and UPnP) or from an external USB storage device. It even automatically retrieves Movie and TV show information with poster and backdrops. It’s priced at $4.99, but seems reasonable based on what they are offering. The full list of features include:

  • Hardware accelerated video decoding support for most devices and video formats;
  • Ability to play content from any computer/network storage in your local network (SMB and UPnP) or from an external USB storage device
  • Automatic online retrieval of Movie and TV show information with poster and backdrop for both local and network content
  • Integrated subtitle downloader
  • Network indexing: import remote shared folders (SMB) in your multimedia library
  • Video browsing with either folder or library based navigation
  • Ubiquitous access to TV shows sorted in a series/season/episode hierarchical view
  • Multi-device network video resume
  • TV friendly: Keyboard/remote control compatible
The only thing I would like to see added is “play to” DLNA support and a Google TV app, but hopefully these wishes will arrive in the near future.

    I would pay 10 times as much if my Archos 70 internet tablet gets a tablet update; The thing never saw any tablet software, as Archos stopped developing at Android 2.2 for it. Archos, you can earn EUR 50 now for something you shouls have done yourself as after sales service a long time ago.
