Android pushing strong gains in smartphone display market

Smartphone platforms, including Android, are responsible for strong gains in the LCD display market, according to research firm iSuppli.  Shipments of small and medium-sized TFT LCD panels are poised to rise 28.1% to 2.3 billion units this year.

The Super AMOLED display market is also growing at a very rapid rate, thanks in large part to Samsung’s very successful Galaxy S line.  The Galaxy Tab should also help push Super AMOLED’s numbers, but iSuppli warns that these figures should start declining next year as phone and tablet sales begin to cool down.

“but iSuppli warns that these figures should start declining next year as phone and tablet sales begin to cool down.” Where did iSuppli get this fortune teller that is predicting a decline? Seems like every analyst, and consumer out there wants nothing but smartphones and tablets. Who knew that smartphones were nearing their peak… Or are they just saying that it’s growth will wane? Again that’s unlikely, with Blackberry 6.0, WinPhone7, Meego, Symbian^3, and Bada just now joining the game, not to mention a newly wealthy webOS coming out with new hardware it sounds to me like the fight is just beginning. Which I’m predicting means years of market movement and nothing but growth.

“The Galaxy Tab should also help push Super AMOLED’s numbers” – not true since the Galaxy Tab does NOT use a Super AMOLED screen.
