Peel Smart Remote app will give Samsung tablet users an interactive experience during Presidential debates

Every four years the Presidential election becomes the thing to talk about in the United States. There are countless commercials, ads, news stories and debates. This time around, Samsung and Peel want their customers to be more proactive in the process. Peel is adding a new interactive feature which will allow their customers to give immediate feedback during the Presidential debates starting on October 3. Peel comes preloaded on Samsung tablets like the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1,  and the Galaxy Note 10.1 so they want to flourish that partnership.

With the Peel app you will be able to cheer or boo what either candidate says in the middle of the debate and then look at what everyone else using the app is thinking. If you feel especially moved by any of the comments you can even donate to one of the candidates on the spot. We have seen other interactive devices that let you take over the living room, but this would be an interesting step in interactive tv. The Peel app is available in the Google Play Store, hit the break for the full press release.

Samsung Tablets and Peel TV Second Screen App to Add Interactivity to Presidential Debates

Peel Brings Democracy to the Living Room, Letting Viewers Share Real-Time Feedback and Predict the Results

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. AND MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF., OCT. 1, 2012 — /PRNewswire/ – Peel, the company dedicated to revolutionizing the way you watch TV, and Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a market leader and award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, today announced that owners of Samsung GALAXY devices preloaded with the Peel Smart Remote TV app can provide real-time user generated feedback during the 2012 presidential debates.

As the candidates take center stage on live TV beginning on Oct. 3, viewers using the Peel Smart Remote app on the Samsung GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus, Tab 7.7, Tab 2 7.0, Tab 2 10.1 or Note 10.1 with built-in IR blaster will able to use the Peel Smart Remote TV App to easily switch the TV channel to any of the available stations showing the debate.

Throughout the debate, users will then be able to “cheer” and “boo” candidate responses to voice their support for or against. Immediately following each presidential or vice presidential debate, Peel will be the first to provide a broad range of sentiment from thousands of viewers based on the in-app feedback.

The data and analysis will be provided directly to users who opt to provide their email address, and will also be published on Peel’s Facebook page at facebook.com/PeelTV.

During the debates you can:

  • Tap to “cheer” and “boo” for President Obama and Governor Romney
  • View aggregated sentiments of all participants
  • Know which candidate viewers believe won the debate
  • See which issues received the most passionate feedback
  • Understand current sentiment in critical swing states
  • Donate to the Obama or Romney campaigns through the app

“Samsung is focused on bringing new and exciting experiences to consumers so we are excited to be Peel’s exclusive partner in this innovative endeavor,” said Travis Merrill, director of product marketing, tablets and mobile internet devices at Samsung Electronics America. “With Samsung GALAXY tablets and Peel’s Smart Remote app, viewers can seamlessly manage any home entertainment system, easily discover content and share with friends through a personalized, intuitive app.  It gives consumers a new and personal way to be a part of special event programming.”

“For the first time ever, the second screen allows thousands of people to make their voices heard in the presidential race,” said Greg Lindley, chief experience officer for Peel. “Giving viewers a way to interact during the debates instantly empowers them to make a difference, and will give tremendous insight into voter sentiment heading into the election.”

Peel Smart Remote is a TV discovery and control app pre-installed on the Samsung GALAXY Tab, Tab 2 and Note 10.1 devices that eliminates the need for complicated grid guide TV listings, multiple remotes and the hassle of switching component inputs. Setting up takes just a few minutes, and Peel immediately begins delivering tailored TV recommendations. Peel users are able to favorite and cut shows to receive personalized TV recommendations, and change the channel to watch a program instantly.
