Google launches Field Trip to help you find ‘cool, hidden, and unique things in the world around you’

Google just launched Field Trip, which runs in the background on your phone and is your guide to cool, hidden, and unique things in the world around you. Whenever you get close to something cool, a pop up notification will appear telling you about the place. Also, if you happen to have a headset or Bluetooth connected, it will read the information to you.

Field Trip will identify the best places to eat, shop, or have fun, including local history. For restaurants and bars, data will be taken from publications like Thrillist, Food Network, Zagat, and Eater. For stores and products, Experts at Sunset, Cool Hunting, WeHeart, Inhabitat, and Remodelista will provide the information. Songkick and Flavorpill will take care of local music and Atlas Obscura and Daily Secret will uncover hidden gems.

Field Trip seems like the perfect way to not only discover places in locations you aren’t familiar with, but also to re-discover history and places in your local area. Check out the video below and hit one of the download links to get started and let us know what you think.
