Verizon to begin offering pre-paid Android phones

Here’s an interesting one. Android phones at Verizon will soon be available to people who use pre-paid phones. That’s not the best part of it, however. Now, when you read this, you were probably thinking Big Red will offer some low-end Android devices to their pre-paid customers. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Verizon will be offering their high-end Android devices, such as the whole Droid line, as well as the Samsung Fascinate, a Galaxy S phone, as pre-paid phones. A big move on Verizon’s part, if you ask me.

Anyone out there use a pre-paid phone? Are you willing to jump ship to a pre-paid Android? Tell us what you think in the comments.

I use prepaid Tmo. The verizon prepaid android phone thing is interesting (what are they going to do about data?) but I’m not jumping ship.

For people like me that use very few mobile talk minutes Tmo is a godsend. I use about 90mins/month, even less now that I use Google Voice + Gizmo (or Voice + Voice Chat) for free calling from my PC. At the 90mins/month usage point mobile service costs me ~90/yr. A YEAR, not a month as is common with smartphone plans.

I sync all my data over wifi. Tasker turns on wifi and syncing based on location.

    Hey frater mus,

Which phone do you use? I am looking for a good pre-paid phone since I rarely use my post-paid one.

I’m running an old G1. Probably not for everyone (due to the meager hardware) but with some tuning it runs FroYo quite well.

I’d imagine a newer-but-still-rootable and ROM-flashable phone would meet most folks’ needs better.
