Nvidia’s Tegra 2 trumps the competition in speed tests

The Toshiba AC100, the company’s fist Android powered notebook, is showing some pretty stunning benchmark results when compared to other Android devices.  Utilizing Nvidia’s Tegra 2 chip, the AC100 blows past the Nexus One in the Quadrant benchmark test.  Also, it should be noted that the notebook is still only running Android 2.1, and should see an even further speed boost from 2.2

We have to wonder, though, whether or not such a powerful chip would be practical in a smartphone, making comparing a notebook to a phone a little questionable.  Still, the results are there for you to interpret any way you like, so leave us a comment below and tell us whether or not you think this is a fair and accurate comparison.

I have never seen any other notebook with android. So how can we compare it in another way?
I hope to see some apps especially for the notebooks running on android. Otherwise i do not see any reason for buying one.

Maybe with so much speed it can fix the occasional lag i still feel. I think Tegra can work in a phone, don’t they have it in the Zune?

    Wow, really?
Yeah, andx my STi just blows any bicycle out of the water!! Its just so much faster man..

Dumbasses. Who compares a notebook to a smartphone and boasts that it’s faster. Rediculous.

OK. I’ll compare my smartphone to that notebook….My smartphone (Galaxy S) is just as fast (within 60 points) and is also only running Eclair. I am actually quite underwhelmed by the notebook’s performance.

There is an Android VMware virtual machine floating around. It’s fun to play with! However, unless the notebook has a touchscreen (I think the Lenovo convertible netbooks would be a prime candidate for Android), I am not sure how popular it will be. Touch is a very different paradigm to cursor-based control, and you have to design apps with that in mind. If you don’t, well…look how popular Windows has been on tablets.
