The X8 has been relatively heavy in news lately, what with the leak of the X8 manual, and the device passing through the FCC (complete with pictures). Now, according to sources, Sony Ericsson will be releasing their Xperia X8 phone in the US, unlocked.

The device will be touting Android 1.6, with Sony Ericsson’s standard (yet heavy) UI interface overlay, which will include both Mediascape and Timescape. We are, however, hearing that the device should see an update to Android 2.1 sometime this fall.

While the device will ship in white, other colors are expected to be available. The device will run on major North American 3G bands, meaning AT&T will be a viable option for stateside consumers. The Xperia X8 is expected to sell for around $300. There is no ship date for the X8 as of yet.

Is this a phone our US readers would be interested in? Be sure to let us know in the comments.
