Is the Viewsonic ViewPad an OlivePad in disguise?

Viewsonic is getting a bit of bad press over what appears to be their attempt at passing off India’s Olive Telecom OlivePad (pictured below) as a new device, by re-branding it under the name “Viewpad”.  The 7-inch tablet, expected to launch at IFA next week, is slated to run some version of the Android OS, and have both 3G and WiFi capabilities.

So what do you think, is Viewsonic shamelessly ripping off the OlivePad?  Tell us your thoughts below.

Ans the OlivePad ripped off the iPad, like so many other tablets…

OK, so they look very similar. But from the photos it’s hard to tell if the ViewPag is actually a rebranded OlivePad or not. The sensor towards the top-left of the devices is in different places, so they may not be the same. They also both look very similar to the RocketFish tablet whose mugshot was posted a few weeks ago. And there are a number of other Chinese tablets that all look very similar, too. When it comes down to it, the general look and feel of tablets in general won’t be all the different — there is only so much you can do design-wise without shooting yourself in the foot. Also, when your biggest rival will almost certainly make the prettiest device that people want, you will probably want to mimic it as closely as possible so your device is desirable…unless you design a better one.

As long as it is all above board, who cares? I don’t believe that design can be protected, so if it is worth stealing then its theft is a foregone conclusion. Anyway, aren’t they being sold in different markets?

See these Brands mostly dont own factories in China,
All these electronics are made in china but branded and marketed by other consumer sellers like Viewsonic, Olive, Dell.

U know Dell xcd35 and ZTE blade mobiles are the same.

I mysefl checked Olive pad and View pad.
Absolutely no Difference. Exactly same price of Olive pad in Croma and View pad in Relience digital.
You can get 16 GB free card with Olive while you can not get it with View Pad.

I also started check features of both and same including different sign for battery GPS sensor Alarm ect on the top right corner.
