2011 Sony Xpera Devices Not Getting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

The UK Product Manager for Sony Mobile, John Cooper, has recently been taking questions from their customers on Facebook. This has revealed that both the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S and Xperia Mini Pro will not be receiving the update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Owners of these devices are saddened by this news, but Cooper also states that “they are always developing new phones and making sure that they get the latest updates.”

This is the first official news on the matter, hopefully Sony will make an official statement on their Jelly bean upgrade plans soon. Since both these devices are not getting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean that most likely means that no other Xperia devices from 2011 will be getting an update either. That is just speculation though, there is still hope for other Xperia devices. It is likely that Xperia devices from 2012 will get an update to Jelly Bean, but any official news or timing hasn’t been released or mentioned yet.

Are you sad to hear that these devices won’t be getting an update to Jelly Bean? Will you be getting an upgrade because of this? Let us know in the comments!

This ain’t good. Android represents freedom and while custom upgrade roms eventually emerge at later date I don’t understand why the mnufacturer refuse to add a little more effort to appreciate the loyality of their existing customers. Its more like a newly made policy by Sony “Since we launched a new model, you better buy it to be in our good books”… Sad but true…

I am very disappointed by this move by Sony, especially because i find the Xperia series as a few of their best units.

guys, even if they decided to update their 2011 lineup with jelly bean it wouldn’t be released before 2013. Sony has flooded their smartphone portfolio with a ton of similar low speced phones, making it longer to release updates as they have a lot more devices to support. This is just ONE consequence of their shody release strategy.

Thats the main problem with Android phone manufactures that they realease too many phones per year.
They should do something like Google does 1 device per year or lets say 3 devices per year.
