Google Music, TV, And Magazines Not Available In Time For UK Nexus 7 Launch

Google launched Google Play Magazines and TV shows in the US at Google I/O last week. Well, it looks like you folks across the pond won’t be getting access to these new services, or to Google Music, in time for the Nexus 7 launch. Currently, the UK has access to Apps, Books, and Movies. Streaming music with Google Music has yet to arrive, and the UK was not included in the new roll-out of Magazines and TV shows.

The UK version will feature all of the options currently available in the UK Play store,” a Google spokesperson told The Inquirer. That short sentence says everything it needs to. Only the current offerings will be available to UK users when the Nexus 7 launches for £159. Of course, this does not mean that the UK will never get these services, and it’s likely those services will all show up at some point in the future.

Does the delay in adding all Google Play services in the UK deter anyone from buying a Nexus 7? The 7-inch tablet is a Google Play consumption device, so we understand if you’re disappointed it won’t be all it can be at launch, but does that price point make you willing to take the plunge anyway and wait for the services to come? UK folks, let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

There’s a fairly well-known hack (using a proxy) to enable your UK account to have Google Music – once you’ve signed up that way, you can upload your music and access it easily from the Google Music app (download the apk, as it won’t show up in the UK store).

Given that Google allows you to store up to 20,000 tracks in the cloud for free – it’s a really key feature to help manage the limited space on the Nexus 7.

I’m not surprised as Google care only about US customers. Do they Realise that most of there customers are out side USA

Amongst the freebies promised with the N7 were “a couple of magazines”, I seem to remember Hugo Barra saying at the 1st day keynote. Since we can’t have magazines here in the UK, maybe Google could let us have a couple of free books, instead of just the one.

No matter, they’re freebies so if we don’t get them I won’t miss them.

I am a bit sick of us here in the UK getting scraps of features. There are tens of millions of people here, that’s a big market, yet these big companies – especially Google – seem to ignore us. Happens all the time, and is wearing a bit thin now.

It looks like an ace tablet with or without services. Already preordered and have plenty of my own media anywsy

It’s not Google’s fault. They want to deliver the services as much as we want them to! They can’t secure the rights deals over here yet, but they’re working on it. It’s the same reason the Kindle Fire never came out over here!

Lots of media companies dislike Google because of the perceived lack of effort by Google to prevent piracy etc. so the media companies are holding out for as much as possible.

I have just ordered the Nexus 7 and am now disappointed to find out that I won’t have access to Google Music because I live in the UK. All I can do is wait – but I hope that I won’t have to wait long and that Google stops ignoring it’s consumers outside of the UK.

Google have until the release of the iPad mini to sort this out, then I’ll jump ship back to Apple. Much like my Samsung Blu-Ray which still does not play LoveFilm instant, I am cheesed off to find another device with posted features, then tucked away in the tiniest small print that it is not available in your country.

    Bloody disgraceful.
