Facebook Places

Most of you have heard of Facebook Places by now, which gives users the ability to “check-in” at various locations so their friends and family can see all the fun and exciting places they go.  Apple iPhone users received an immediate update to their Facebook app to support the new feature, leaving Android users in the dust.

Fortunately, there is a temporary solution for Android users running 2.x.  Simply visit touch.facebook.com in your browser, and then navigate to “Places” in the upper right corner.

We’re sure the Android Facebook app will be updated soon, but for now, at least Android users have a way of utilizing this new service.  Also, we’re curious to hear your thoughts about Places, so leave us a comment below!

Or better yet, just use the Gowalla app, and sync up your Gowalla account and your Facebook account.

Gowalla is better, prettier, and more reliable!

I’d be happy with a better fb app even if it doesn’t include places…

I’m running 2.1 and I can’t get the places app to work its always telling me that can’t detect my location is there something I need to do first?

What good is facebook for droid if it says “loading” for 20-30 minutes (before I give up and close it)? I didn’t think I would live to miss my blackberry…

So I tried uninstalling it from my droid 2, thinking maybe it was just corrupt. Now there isn’t a place to reload it from that is currently functional (for 2 days). Way to go Droid Market & Facebook!

I get the error message: COULDN’T DETECT YOUR LOCATION.” again and again. :(

  • Geniuz

@Mag – you have to go into your browser, hit the menu button and go to settings. Then make sure “enable location” is checked on. I had the same issue until I did that. Hope that helps.
