Acer Android Netbooks Launching Q3 2009

acer android netbooksAcer's global president for IT products, Jim Wong has announced that the company will launch their first Android powered netbook in Q3 of 2009.

The announcement was made at the Computex 2009 show, and follows the news that Acer have this week also officially joined the Open Handset Alliance.

The Acer Android netbooks will be powered by the low cost Intel Atom processor, and are expected to be priced lower than their Windows XP-based counterparts.

Wong was also keen to point out that Acer's move into Android netbooks wasn't going to affect their Windows XP powered devices, "When we are doing this new Android netbook, we are not going to make the other one go away," Wong said. "Both systems will still remain available to customers, and one will not go away because of the other."
