More news regarding Motorola’s upcoming Android 3.0 tablet releasing through Verizon. DigiTimes has reported that Google and Motorola have been working very closely on this one. So closely in fact that this will be labeled as a Google/Motorola device, similar to the G1 or Nexus One with HTC. Google is also reported to have been heavily involved with developing the UI on this device. Something Motorola has struggled with in the past as evidenced by the often despised Motoblur. Hopefully this just means they are using the stock Gingerbread UI, and rumors are true that the customized UI skins on current Android devices will be a thing of the past. I know this rumor has been shot down by some in the past, but I’m still holding out hope. The tablet will be powered by an NVidia Tegra 2 processor, previously reported to be anywhere from 1 – 1.3 GHz. Also the tablet’s 10.1-inch touchscreen panel will be provided by Sharp. The screen is said to be thinner than that of the iPad but not as bright. Mass production by Motorola will begin before year’s end.
So this is the same tablet to be launched by Verizon in November, right? And it’s called the Stingray, isn’t it? Sometimes it’s hard to tell. One thing is for sure. Google like’s getting hands-on with these tablets.
