Motorola Jordan Android waterproof handset for T-Mobile

BoyGeniusReport has been informed that T-Mobile may be upping the ante with a new Android phone. A new Motorola phone, codenamed ‘Jordan’ , has been set for release sometime in November on T-Mobile.

The Motorola Jordan is not only a rugged handset, but may actually be waterproof down to 10 meters, or 33 feet. An Android phone made by Motorola that may be waterproof just seems…catchy?

What do you think? Will this attract consumers?

Hell naw! That’s not a feature most people look for in a smartphone. I just hope that’s not “Project Emerald” but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is.

@Dre, I agree. If I were smartphone shopping, a waterproof phone is definitely something I wouldn’t be looking for. However, it could be beneficial for employees who are currently employed or looking to be employed with ocean-related jobs.

If rumor holds true and it is named Motorola Jordan, I’m sure Jordan himself could of come out with a better idea than a waterproof phone, right? =)

I’d buy it if it had the right form factor. I’ve lost 3 phones to water damage – my iPhone (original) was damaged simply by walking/talking in the rain. Other phones (Palm, Nexus) were damaged due to boating slip-ups.

Just the other day my friend said he would only get an Android phone if it was waterproof. I could also see this being useful for listening to music and podcasts while I swim. I also go sailing in small capsize-able boats and it would be great to take my phone with me. As long as they don’t make the phone look like it’s waterproof it should be a great phone.

Don’t they have waterproof cases for most phones?

Personally i’d rather keep my high-spec phone and put it in a case when im near water rather than buy a (usually lower spec) device specifically designed to be water resistant/proof

@Steve, Sorry to hear that buddy! I would be devastated if my Nexus was damaged by water!

@Jared, You make a good point, but can waterproof cases be trustworthy to keep your phone dry? If it were damaged somehow, liability is still on the users.

@Coretron, I can see where you’re coming from. If they made an Android waterproof phone that doesn’t look waterproof, then I could see reason in buying it. When I think waterproof, I think big bulky….RUGGED, as the article states.

Lower-specs are very likely as Jered pointed out.

I definitely would look for something like this. I’m looking for a phone that can take a long run in the rain, with a decent GPS and a good training program.
