[Updated for Rooted Users] Time Warner Cable’s TWC TV app receives “Live TV” streaming in latest update, non-rooted ICS devices only

Time Warner customers who have been making use of the TWC TV app in the past will now be happy to hear that its latest update brings live TV streaming to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich devices, however there is a catch. The update will only work on phones that have not been rooted. For the Android community, this is a little bit of a shocker as a good bit of Android users take full advantage of Google’s software and root like there’s no tomorrow. It’s unclear whether this lack of support was a decision made by Time Warner themselves or if it’s just a bump in the road that will soon be remedied with a future update or some fancy handy work from the dev community. Only “Time” will tell. Hit the Play Store link below to get the goods.

Well that didn’t take long! XDA member Boosted has already released an .apk for rooted users and can be sideloaded like any other third party app. Simply download the .apk below and install. Before you do, be sure you allow the installation of “unknown sources” under your device’s security settings. Hit up the XDA link below if you want to get in on the thread conversation or make a donation to the awesome developer who brought you this mod. Nice work Boosted!!

About the Author: Tony Rosario

Yet another one of Krypton’s last son’s, Tony grew up in a small town not too far from Dallas, Texas. Being a lover of all things games, a good part of his childhood was spent mastering Mortal Kombat techniques and perfecting Fatalities, yet he always made time for artistic endeavors such as singing, acting and playing in rock bands. Tony graduated from the University of North Texas in Music Performance for Double Bass. He freelanced in the DFW area and taught privately for several years. During this time, he discovered the benefits a smartphone could make in his line of work, being able to respond to gig offers in a timely manner and navigate to performances with GPS, all while on the go. He did months of research, finally deciding on the Android OS. And the reason you ask? Emulators. The fact that he now had a phone, GPS system, instant messenger, mp3 player, camera and 4 different videogame consoles with 100+ games, all in a single device, was mind blowing. Tony’s new love for Android blossomed rather quickly into an obsession that landed him a job with Sprint. He now gets to play with all kinds of phones, fix them and write about them for Talk Android.

Why did Time Warner support Ice Cream Sandwich phones only? They only make up about 3 percent of all Androids out there.  I don’t know what is so hard about offering a streaming app for Android, DISH has been doing it for years. I have been able to stream live TV channels and DVR recordings to my iOS and Android devices for a long time now. I also want to know why Timer Warner restricts their customers to their homes for live streaming. I was just telling one of my coworkers at Dish how we are the only provider to give customers the ability to stream outside the home. What did Time Warner’s customers do to get grounded?

This is a flaw as this Android TV App works only on the phones that have not been rooted. So users who have already rooted their phone cannot use it. But at the same time there are others who can utilize this app till maximum extent as it gives them good opportunity to make use of this apps.
