Yesterday, Google announced the launch of its new feature for Android 2.2 devices, known as Voice Actions. As you can imagine, this has the potential to be devastating for app developers who have created similar applications. So, are they going to sit back in a corner and whimper until they have nobody left? Not Vlingo.

Vlingo, creators of an application by the same name that allows for the same functions as Google’s new pride and joy, aren’t going to take the competition’s response lying down. That’s why they have now made Vlingo, a once paid application, free to the masses. Their application also, as they claim on their blog, has a potential to be more universal across your handset, as it does more than tie into just Google’s applications.

So, what are you waiting for? If you want to try it out free and stack it up against Google’s app, make sure to hit up the market link below from your phone and choose “Vlingo Words to Action”.
