The AppNation app developers conference in San Fransisco has announced a momentary partnership with Fox Network and San Fransisco Convention and Visitors Bureau to offer up some serious cash for developers. The contest, known as “Pimp My App”, has awards coming up on $10,000. The contest itself is to develop apps that not only promote the show Fringe, but also ones that pimp out SF as the number one destination for, well, everyone.
The rules are pretty broad; developers can use any app development tools available to create this app. First prize is a whopping $10,000, and second prize comes in at $1,000.
According to Bill Bradford, Senior Vice President of Digital Media, Fox Broadcasting Company, “Fringe is one of the most creative and innovative series on television, so we want to offer fans an app that’s just as mind-blowing as the show. There’s no better way to tap into new talent than to open this up to the broader developer community, so we’re thrilled that AppNation is giving us the perfect forum in which to do that.”
But, what if you’re just not that into Fringe? Yes, I know… it is possible. Well, that’s okay, as the SFCVB has another contest going. They’re offering prize money of $2,500 for first place in their contest that shows off San Fransisco as the #1 tourist destination in the world, and the winner will also have their app become the official app of the SFCVB. AppNation Founder and Executive Producer Drew Ianni commented on the contest, saying, “we are honored that the great City of San Francisco has partnered with AppNation to rally the development community for what has to be one of the most exciting creative assignments one could possibly imagine”.
The rules? The app must be able to run on both Android and iOS platforms, and the developer must be at least 18 years old. If that sounds like something you’d be interested in, be sure to check out the official contest page here.
